  • Can you fix all behaviors with training?
Fix? No Control and manage? Yes Unfortunately some behaviors can be genetic which can make the dog be internally rewarded - it gives them the same feeling as a physical reward. Like a border collie herding, a belgian malinois biting, or a doberman barking. These behaviors can be given an outlet and managed so they are done appropriately and fulfill the dogs genetic desires; whilst also giving us the control to say when it is and is not okay to do them.
  • Do you offer guarantees with your training?
No. We cannot offer a guarantee on our training as we do not know whether or not owners will follow our directions and maintain consistency. We do guarantee to provide you and your dog with all the proper knowledge and tools you may need in order to be successful.
  • Will you give tips on training during our evaulation?
No. Our training process cannot be compressed into a 30-60 minute meeting. But if you are not looking to enroll in a program and just need advisement on a specific problem we offer single lessons with no time frame to discuss how it can be resolved.

  • What is balanced dog training?
Balanced dog training is a method that uses both positive reinforcement (like rewards for desired behavior) and negative reinforcement (such as verbal corrections or leash pressure for unwanted behavior). The goal is to create clear communication with the dog and help them understand what behaviors are acceptable.
  • What types of corrections are used in balanced training?
There are a variety of corrections that we may implement to insure clarity in our communication, such as verbal "No", leash pressure on a slip or prong collar, or using an e-collar stim. We determine what to use based off what works for the dog to understand what we are communicating. We do not cause pain, just discomfort in order to make the new replacement behavior much more rewarding.
  • Do I have to use corrections to train with Connective Canine?
Of course not! We prioritize our clients comfortability with our training and won't make you do anything you may not want to. All we ask is you listen to why we may suggest it; whether or not you choose to apply it is up to you. We are happy to help either way.
  • Can balanced training be done at home?
It can be. But in order for it to be used properly and show progress, it must be completely balanced and clear. If not you can cause confusion, avoidance, or even damage your relationship.
  • Are treats still used in balanced training?
Yes! We actually use much more than treats; whatever is most rewarding to your dog is what will be used to teach and later reinforce.
  • Will my dog always need tools and rewards?
Yes and no! The goal of training is to establish clear communication that your dog understands and respects, without the expectation of a correction or reward when they do the behavior. We use tools and rewards to teach and then reinforce. Once they understand the expectations we can begin removing anything extra in the behavior. But dog's are not robots. They can revert back to bad behaviors, and need the training to reinforce the good behavior.
